Command & Conquer coded in HTML5

Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 now official: 12.1MP, Full HD movie mode At long last, the Lumix DMC-GF2. Hitting the scene just a few weeks after the GH2, this here Micro Four Thirds rig is Panasonic's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera, and it's packin' quite the specs list. From the top, you're looking at a 12.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor, compatibility with the company's own 3D interchangeable lens (the LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12) and an enclosure that's seven percent lighter (not ...

The Trainyard iPhone App Turns Avoiding Train Crashes Into An Addiction [Video] Trainyard may be a rather simple iPhone game, but it's one of my latest addictions. Those folks who are nuts about logic and puzzle games—as well as those who adore Flight Control—are very likely to love it, too. The game's currently on sale for a buck, but normally priced at $1.99. If you're not absolutely certain that ...
Nokia N8 review

Nokia N8 review The first time Nokia's N8-00 popped up on our radar was way back in early February of this year. On that chilly, misty morning, we learned of a mythical being capable of shooting 12 megapixel stills, recording 720p video, outputting via HDMI, and -- most importantly -- ushering in the promised Symbian^3 touch revolution. It's been a long road of leaks, teasers, hands-ons, and previews since ...
More info about the physics of Angry Birds than you need to know

More info about the physics of Angry Birds than you need to know If there's anything I love to read, it's analysis of the commonplace items in our lives by physicists, engineers, and mathematicians. That's why I was attracted to a recent Wired Dot Physics post by physicist Rhett Allain in which he did a Tracker video analysis of the most important characters in Angry Birds -- the birds. By using the official Angry Birds walkthrough videos on YouTube with Tracker, Allain ...

Largest Lego Ship Ever Built Is Bigger Than Three Queen-Sized Beds [Video] The 23-foot-long Lego USS Intrepid aircraft carrier should be renamed the USS Insane. It's the largest Lego ship ever built. Drowning in information? Tags can help If you're anything like me you have lots and lots of information. Endless folders and files are scattered about, and while Spotlight in Mac OS X is very helpful, it's not a perfect fit for every situation. One solution I've found very helpful is Tags, from Gravity Apps. Our own Brett Terpstra took a look at version 1 of the program back in January of 2009, and now the app has been updated to make it even more useful. Click ...

Nokia N8 going on general sale October 22, available online October 15 Been waiting for the N8 but weren't sure enough about buying it to get into the pre-order queue? Well, Nokia must have found your lack of faith disturbing as it's now stiffing those who didn't pre-order its all-new handset with another couple of weeks of waiting. Those without Nokia logos tattooed on their lower backs will finally be able to purchase the N8 on October 15 -- but only via Nokia's own web store -- before a general ...
Air Visibility Monitoring Android App

Air Visibility Monitoring Android App This is an app known as Air Visibility Monitoring, which will allow you to see how polluted the air is. All that is required is to take a picture of the sky, and then frame the area there. After it is compiled, you will find the information about the air pollution. This could be an eye-opener, but I’m not certain how accurate a photo-taking app can be. Source Related Post...
