Strategic Sharing: Zipcar Leads $13.7M Investment In Campus Car-Sharing Startup Wheelz
February 22, 2012 – 8:25 am | No Comment

Well, you have to hand it to the strategy team over at Zipcar . Arguably the largest on-demand car-sharing network, Zipcar went public last year and not long after saw its market cap cross $1 billion . It’s since fallen back, and with collaborative consumption and the market for car-sharing heating up, the big players have to make moves. Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . Today finds Zipcar making another strategic move to get its mitts in fellow car-sharing companies, again with a focus on universities, whose students are among the most eager adopters of car-sharing models. What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. The Detroit-based Fontinalis…

Samsung Monte Iron Man Editon For O2 UK Looks like LG isn’t the only Korean phone manufacturer that is smitten with Marvel’s Iron Man, as Samsung has also announced that it will be launching a special edition of its Monte handset to take advantage of the release of Iron Man 2. The phone will be available exclusively on O2, specced the same as the original Monte, but will come bundled with an SD card loaded with the ...
Samsung A777 Cell Phone Review–Hardly A Jackpot
April 22, 2010 – 1:19 pm | No Comment
Samsung A777 Cell Phone Review–Hardly A Jackpot I’ve come to enjoy Samsung phones–it seems like the mobile tech for Samsung is usually top notch or with only small difficulties. The Samsung A777, despite the implications of its name, however, is hardly a jackpot. The Samsung A777 is a slider-style phone that offers voice dialing, call timer, voice recorder, speakerphone, Bluetooth connectivity, a phone book with capacity for a thousand name and number entries, mobile web, mobile email, text and instant messenger capability, MP3 player, 1.3 megapixel digital camera with ...
Samsung: Pregnant, drunk or tired? Don’t watch your 3D TV

Samsung: Pregnant, drunk or tired? Don’t watch your 3D TV Would you have bought your TV if it came with a warning to "take frequent breaks" to keep from experience nauseating side effects? That's what Samsung, which already has 3D televisions on shelves, is recommending users do to keep from succumbing to "motion sickness, perceptual after effects, disorientation, eye strain and decreased postural stability." It all sounds like a list on drug ad. The list goes on: children and teenagers should be "closely supervised" as they are ...
Samsung Rugby Cell Phone Review–A Robust Model

Samsung Rugby Cell Phone Review–A Robust Model When I first came in contact with the Samsung Rugby, I have to admit that I was pretty well impressed by what I saw. This may well have been one of the most robust cell phones I’d ever come in contact with. It honestly would not have surprised me overmuch to discover that some people were using them to bludgeon muggers. But there’s more to the Samsung Rugby than its rugged exterior–it also offers a voice recorder, speakerphone, Bluetooth connectivity, a phone ...

Samsung Jack Cell Phone Review–More Like Samsungberry
February 22, 2010 – 9:15 am | No Comment
Samsung Jack Cell Phone Review–More Like Samsungberry The more Samsung cell phones I come in contact with, the less I like them. Samsung has irked me almost relentlessly with lower quality phones and phones that do precious little more than tweak the design envelope just enough to avoid derisive mocking. And despite the fact that the good folks out at Puremobile sent me a Samsung Jack to take a look at, all I can think when I’m trying this is that it’s more like the Samsung Black…berry. The Samsung Jack is a ...
Bada-boom: we’ve got info and pictures of the Samsung S8500

Bada-boom: we’ve got info and pictures of the Samsung S8500 Apparently MWC is leaking like a sieve, or someone just broke an embargo. Whatever happened, click through to see the specs and pictures of the Samsung Wave that we told you about earlier . Here’s what we know; the Samsung S8500 (called the Wave) has a 3.3 inch amoled screen, running the new Bada OS. It has 2gb of internal memory, a 5 megapixel camera capable of recording at 720p, and a MicroSD slot. The body is made from aluminum, and the 1 ghz processor should make ...
Aceeca Brings PalmOS Back Into The Market
January 17, 2010 – 9:37 am | No Comment
Aceeca Brings PalmOS Back Into The Market When Palm launched its webOS, everybody expected the existing Palm OS to die out, and it did (in a way), but the folks over at Aceeca certainly think enough of it to license the use of the OS for 2 of their upcoming handsets, the Aceeca PDA32 Garnet, and the MEZ1500 Garnet. The former apparently is taller than a Palm TX, and is about twice as thick as ...
Rumor: Samsung Mobile to launch absolutely nothing at CES?
January 2, 2010 – 3:24 pm | No Comment
Rumor: Samsung Mobile to launch absolutely nothing at CES? Remember the last time Samsung went more than a few days without launching a new phone? Yeah, neither do we – so you’ll have to pardon us if we sound a bit skeptical here. When we got word that Samsung Mobile was holding their CES press conference at the ungodly hour of 7:30 A.M on the Day 2 of CES (otherwise known as Day 1 of being hungover), my curiosity was piqued. I mean, who the hell launches a new phone ...
LG UX700 Bliss Cell Phone Review–Another Touchscreen Monster
January 1, 2010 – 1:09 am | No Comment
LG UX700 Bliss Cell Phone Review–Another Touchscreen Monster Much like the Samsung r800 Delve we discussed yesterday, the LG UX700 Bliss is heavily dependent on touch screen technology, having virtually no external controls of any sort.  But this doesn’t necessarily reflect badly on the LG UX700, because it’s got plenty of great features to help out.  Let’s take a look.
