Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. AT&T starts CTIA off right by introducing five new smartphones to its Android lineup At CTIA last March, AT&T stole the show by announcing its intent to purchase T-Mobile US. This time around, the news is a bit more modest in comparison but the company's still hoping to give us a bit of a shock nonetheless, introducing a litany of new handsets right on time for the holiday season. The carrier promised the release of 12 Android devices throughout the course of the year, and this week's announcement pushes the 2011 running count to 19. Not too shabby. ...

MeeGo shown off on video Well since the Nokia N9 won’t be making its way over to certain parts of the world, including the US, not everybody will have the luxury of getting to play around with the MeeGo smartphone; save the handful of people who are willing to get the phone flown in from another country. Well, for those of us who aren’t willing to go through so much trouble – there’s always YouTube. ...
The Smartphone Salad Days Are Over
August 1, 2011 – 8:38 am | No Comment
The Smartphone Salad Days Are Over Horace Dediu notes that Nokia and RIM are on a precipitous decline and that it is now, in short, a two horse race: Apple v. Android. The age of the smartphone – an era where anyone with a keyboard and some apps could make it in the world marketplace – is over. I’d call this, now, the Age of Fragmentation – new devices are overlapping each other from both sides of the fence as users wait for new iPhones and swear that the next HTC, Samsung, or ...

Everybody wants a 4G-capable phone. That’s a given. The only issue is that, like all new technology, they cost a pretty penny, especially from good ol’ Big Red. As in, way more than we’re used to seeing on any smartphone (most high-end handsets cost around $200). Luckily, Target has stepped in to alleviate some of the cost on at least two 4G LTE-capable phones, offering the LG Revolution and the Samsung Droid Charge online for way below what Verizon ’s asking. The Revolution currently costs $249.99 on a new ...
