Strategic Sharing: Zipcar Leads $13.7M Investment In Campus Car-Sharing Startup Wheelz
February 22, 2012 – 8:25 am | No Comment

Well, you have to hand it to the strategy team over at Zipcar . Arguably the largest on-demand car-sharing network, Zipcar went public last year and not long after saw its market cap cross $1 billion . It’s since fallen back, and with collaborative consumption and the market for car-sharing heating up, the big players have to make moves. Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . Today finds Zipcar making another strategic move to get its mitts in fellow car-sharing companies, again with a focus on universities, whose students are among the most eager adopters of car-sharing models. What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. The Detroit-based Fontinalis…

Prepare wallets! DSi XL hits on March 28 for $190

Prepare wallets! DSi XL hits on March 28 for $190 Not everyone agrees that the DSi XL was a necessary step; after all, the original DS and DS Lite were the best selling game things on the market with their little screens and limited brightness. But when you hear about parents and grandparents enjoying a game of Picross or Professor Layton, you start to remember that yeah, there are other people in the world. And maybe they could use a device more suited to their needs. That’s kind of the other side of the the coin in ...

T-Mobile to speak of HTC HD2 next week If you weren’t aware, next week is the Mobile World Congress, a convention whee things like Windows Mobile 7 are expected to launch. Well, it seems that T-Mobile too will be showing off a product at the event, one we are pretty familiar with, called the HTC HD2. News came to us from T-Mobile USA’s Twitter where they said to stay tuned next week to find out more about the HTC HD2. Perhaps ...
Nintendo Game and Watch: Cult reborn as keyholders (video)
January 18, 2010 – 4:31 am | No Comment
Nintendo Game and Watch: Cult reborn as keyholders (video) Game & Watch is the name of a series of (now) simple LCD handheld games Nintendo produced between 1980 and 1991. The small devices still enjoy cult status among hardcore retro gamers (just look at these prices on Ebay ), which means it’s not that big a surprise that toymaker Takara decided to come up with three new keyholders that are designed exactly like Game & Watch units. Specifically, the keyholders resemble the Octopus , Parachute , and Chef Game & Watches (all of these games were ...
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Hits the App Store [IPhone Apps]

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Hits the App Store [IPhone Apps] The iPhone's got its first GTA title, and it looks pretty great. As teased before, this is a top-down GTA, and it's a near-direct port of the Nintendo DS version, albeit with better graphics, and more awkward controls. Touch Arcade's had some time to run/jack/drive/murder their way around the game a little bit, and here's what they noticed: • The graphics are much better than they looked in the early screenshots, falling closer to the PSP version of the game than ...
THQ taking DS to Beat City
January 12, 2010 – 9:38 am | No Comment
THQ taking DS to Beat City Ever wonder what a city built on rock and roll would actually look like? Find out this spring when THQ releases Beat City for the DS. Beat City, developed by THQ Wireless developer Universomo, is a series of 20 rhythm-based minigames in which players "tap, swipe, or hold" to the beat, while the city transforms. Success in minigames will help drive Dame Isolde Minor and her Cacophony Corporation, who presumably dislike music, out of the ...
Greenpeace calls out Nintendo, Microsoft in ‘Greener Electronics’ report

Greenpeace calls out Nintendo, Microsoft in ‘Greener Electronics’ report We were really hoping that Nintendo and Microsoft could rally after their near-bottom finishes in former annual iterations of Greenpeace's green business practice rankings -- after all, we bet they're pretty sick of getting beat by Nokia. (Ewwww!) Unfortunately, this latest "Guide to Greener Electronics" report (.pdf link) looks a lot like all the previous ones: Nintendo finished dead last, and Microsoft finished not far behind. Sony, on the other hand, finished a bit closer to the middle ...

Wii dominates Amazon’s video game best sellers of 2009 Online retailer Amazon has tallied up sales in its Video Games category for the year 2009, and the results are overwhelmingly in favor of the Nintendo Wii, with nine out of the top ten spots going to Nintendo's console, various official accessories, and games. The best-selling game on the list is New Super Mario Bros. Wii at spot number 5, a feat made even more impressive by the fact that the game ...
The App Store Forgets It’s Not The Android Market, Temporarily Sells NES Emulator

The App Store Forgets It’s Not The Android Market, Temporarily Sells NES Emulator As stringent (and arguably overzealous) as Apple’s App review policy is, things still slip through the cracks from time to time. I mean, who can forget the infamous baby shaking simulator slip-up? The latest bit of contraband to hit the App Store isn’t nearly as offensive – that is, unless you’re Nintendo. Earlier today, an application called “Nescaline” popped up on ...
Nintendo Files Trademark For Zii, Is It The Wii 2 Though? [Gaming]

Nintendo Files Trademark For Zii, Is It The Wii 2 Though? [Gaming] If Nintendo's follow-up to the Wii is actually called the Zii, I think that's the first mistake right there. But could this mysterious trademark, filed in Japan in October, actually be for the Wii 2, or something else? It was spotted on a trademarks database yesterday by the eagle-eyed Siliconera, who rightly points out that it "seems kind of late to protect Wii typos since the console is three years old." Perhaps it's that ...
