Cyanogenmod 9 struts its stuff on HTC’s One X

So you’ve procured yourself HTC’s new super slim, 4.7-inch halo phone: the One X. By now, you probably have the device set up just the way you like it: applications configured, widgets in place and Adele ringtone set. But there’s just something else left to do, isn’t there? If (like some of us) you’re a smartphone user who just can’t leave well enough alone, you’ll be excited to learn that a build of Cyanogenmod 9 for the Uno Equis has been made available via the MoDaCo forums. The ROM will deliver that stock Android experience, and all those CM9 accoutrements, to those that don’t fancy the panache of Sense 4.0. The forum post does caution that the One’s camera, and hotspot functionality, aren’t currently working, so interested parties best proceed with caution. If all that doesn’t phase you, grab a cup of coffee, get the Android SDK all warmed up and take this ROM for a spin!

HTC Golf press image leaked

Sometime last month, there were whispers of a new smartphone from HTC known as the HTC Golf, which surprisingly enough will not be part of the flagship range, but rather, has every intention of making a splash on the entry level to mid-range market. We do know that it will run on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and the folks over at PocketNow managed to snag what they deem to be the first press image of the HTC Golf. Heck, there are even whispers going around that the HTC Golf might be renamed as the Wildfire C eventually. Despite that, it will still resemble the latest One series in terms of design, sporting a white frame which will most probably hold a single core processor that is no faster than 1GHz, 512MB RAM, and 4GB of internal memory. HTC’s Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades arrive end of March

HTC’s Facebook page has just revealed more information about the upcoming Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades, where the first round of upgrades are tipped to be released by the end of next month for the follwing smartphones – the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Sensation XL shortly after that. Apart from that, HTC also confirmed that other smartphones from their stable will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich update later this year (post-March obviously), and these will include the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. If you own any of these phones mentioned, I guess there is no need to worry any more as to whether you should upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus from Verizon to enjoy Android 4.0, and it also means you will soon be able to give Chrome for Android a go while checking out the associated Easter Eggs.

It’s About Time: HTC To Refocus Smartphone Efforts Around “Hero” Devices

HTC has gotten to be remarkably good at churning out phone after phone these days, but it’s gotten to feel like each new release is too little too soon. Thankfully, the godfather of Android hardware has come to its senses, as revealed by Mobile Today . According to HTC UK head Phil Roberson, 2012 is going to be all about giving their customers “something special.” To that end, HTC plans to focus on a smaller number of “hero” smartphones and dial back their presence in the tablet market. “We have to get back to focusing on what made us great – amazing hardware and a great customer experience,” Roberson said. “We ended 2011 with far more products than we started out with. HTC EVO 3D teardown photos surface

Despite being HTC’s first 3D phone, it didn’t really make a splash when it launched in the US, however it still is an interesting phone that has the ability to display glasses-free 3D visuals. Well if you’ve ever wondered about what made the phone tick, and what goes on behind the scenes, you’re in luck. Photographs of the phone’s innards from its visit to the FCC have surfaced, giving us a closer look at the phone.

We can see the HTC EVO 3D’s Qualcomm MSM6280 processor, Hynix SDRAM, Broadcom Bluetooth chip and its dual-lens 3D camera. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the HTC EVO 3D under the knife – earlier this year the folks over at XDA-developers released a video showing the device being taken apart as well. HTC Vigor to be renamed DROID Incredible HD?

An interesting looking document claimed to be the spec sheet for the upcoming HD display phone, the HTC Vigor, has surfaced recently giving us some interesting details about the phone. While there’s no way to verify if it’s real or fake, it does give us something to ponder upon. According to the document, the HTC Vigor will be rebranded as the DROID Incredible HD and released on October 13^th by Verizon.

HTC Titan and Radar announced

HTC did not get to where they are today by playing it risky, putting all of their eggs in a single basket. Before they became the Android smartphone producing juggernaut that they are today, they used to spread the risk with some Windows Mobile handsets, and the same applies in the Android generation with the announcement of a couple of Windows Phone 7 smartphones, otherwise known as the HTC Titan and HTC Radar.

The HTC Titan will be the superior handset between the two, sporting an extremely generous 4.7″ WVGA (800 x 480 resolution) display, inching it extremely close to tablet territory. The bezel is not thick enough to make this an unwieldy handset though (which is a good thing), measuring 130.6mm x 70.6mm x 9.9mm in dimensions to keep it pocket friendly.

Using a similar processor that is found in the HTC Flyer, the 1.5GHz single-core Snapdragon CPU ought to have enough muscle to get the job done, where it will be kept company by 512MB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, an 8-megapixel camera at the back and HSPA+ connectivity. As for the HTC Radar, this falls under the mid-range category with a 3.8″ Super LCD display, 512MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera and a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. Expect both of these to arrive in Europe sometime next month.

The mysterious Android phone with a 720p resolution display known as the HTC Vigor has finally made an appearance in the flesh. The folks over at Droid-Life managed to get their hands on some photographs showing the device in the flesh, and true to Mr. Blurrycam’s photo-taking skills, the device looks pretty blur – but it is sharp enough for us to make out the details on it. Judging by first impressions, the HTC Vigor eerily looks a lot like the HTC Incredible.

HTC CEO Sticking With Android Despite Google-Motorola Deal

“We welcome the news of today’s acquisition, which demonstrates that Google is deeply committed to defending Android, its partners, and the entire ecosystem.” That was Peter Chou’s line from right after the Google-Motorola deal was announced, and it would appear he’s sticking to it. Today, the HTC CEO has announced his intention to stick it out with Google and Android in spite of the multi-billion dollar acquisition. According to the Wall Street Journal , Chou was careful to reiterate his support for the deal, stating that it would benefit the entire ecosystem because Google would have a stronger patent shield thanks to the acquisition. The end result: a stronger Android for manufacturers to work with. Chou has dispelled the recent rumor that HTC was considering building an OS of their own, stating that the company’s goal is to differentiate their products while “leveraging partnerships” with software partners Google and Microsoft. HTC purchases mobile backup service developer, Dashwire

While HTC is still under fire from Apple due to alleged patent infringement, it doesn’t look like the Taiwanese manufacturer is letting those problems get in the way of its business. It has been recently reported that HTC has purchased a Seattle company named Dashwire. Known for developing a platform that lets users back up data created on their phones to the cloud, Dashwire will become a subsidiary of HTC. HTC will be integrating Dashwire’s technology into its own HTCSense.com cloud services.
