Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . Today finds Zipcar making another strategic move to get its mitts in fellow car-sharing companies, again with a focus on universities, whose students are among the most eager adopters of car-sharing models. What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. Does Microsoft Really Need A Windows Superphone?
December 29, 2011 – 12:58 am | No Comment
Does Microsoft Really Need A Windows Superphone? A leaked Windows Phone roadmap made the rounds earlier today, and if its contents hold true, then Microsoft will be going big on hardware when it comes time for Windows Phone Apollo to take the stage. Even though the budget-friendly Tango update will hit devices first, Microsoft has apparently made the development of “superphones” a priority for next year. One of the things that I really enjoy about Windows Phone is that it doesn’t need the latest-and-greatest hardware in order to give users a consistently smooth experience. ...

December 24, 2011 – 9:03 am | No Comment
Siri, What Were Your Top 5 Hacks And Mods Of 2011? 2011 saw the rise and fall of Siri. What was initially hailed as something just short of the savior of mankind turned out to be a limited voice control system . Apple insists Siri is still a beta product. They say it will get better. But some out there couldn’t wait for Apple. And so, with a little imagineering, people made Siri do all sorts of unconventional tasks in 2011. These hacks led to her opening beer, playing the piano, and even warning owners about what’s on ...
iMAME pulled from the Apple App Store
December 23, 2011 – 7:54 pm | No Comment
iMAME pulled from the Apple App Store It only took a couple of days, but it looks like the iMAME app which allowed gamers to play classic games on their iOS devices has finally been pulled out from the Apple App Store. Can’t say we didn’t see this coming, since Apple forbids apps on its store from running emulated code. However, it’s safe to say that this isn’t going to be the last we’ve seen of the app. Various emulator apps have managed to pop ...
SigFig Shows Its iOS-Owning Investors Big on AAPL, Its Android-Owning Ones Not So Big On GOOG

SigFig Shows Its iOS-Owning Investors Big on AAPL, Its Android-Owning Ones Not So Big On GOOG A study by investment analysis startup SigFig suggests that iPhone-owning investors are 20% more likely than the average investor to also own Apple stock, while investors with Androids are 25% less likely to own Google than average. This is just one startup’s limited data, so don’t get all excited and assume that this is the case worldwide. But still, it makes for an entertaining look at just how loyal those Apple fans are. SigFig gets the data from its Wikinvest site, which tracks $20 billion in investments. ...

December 15, 2011 – 1:17 pm | No Comment
Amazon: For The Third Week, Kindle (Including The Fire) Sales Have Surpassed 1 Million Per Week The Kindle Fire is a hit and Amazon just released an impressive number to back up the widely accepted sentiment. Amazon is currently selling Kindles at a rate of one million per week as demand increases. Despite the huge sales numbers, Amazon has managed to keep the tablets and ereaders in stock and available for next day shipping. Even Apple couldn’t fulfill that sort of demand after the launch of either versions of the iPad. Amazon’s budget tablet was a hit from the beginning. Even prior to ...

Google Zeitgeist goes live, reminds the world of Rebecca Black’s existence How will people remember 2011? As the year of Rebecca Black, if the results of Google's Zeitgeist list are to be believed. The momentarily famous "Friday" singer topped Google's annual year-end list of hot search terms, followed by the software giant's own Google+ social network and deceased Jackass star, Ryan Dunn. The top five is rounded out by the acquitted Casey Anthony and the ultra-hot FPS, Battlefield 3. Apple made three appearances in the top ten, courtesy of ...

December 12, 2011 – 9:24 pm | No Comment
Fast Society Deadpools Its Messaging App, Preps Cameo For Launch Fast Society today announced it will shut down its group messaging app and instead devote resources to its new app Cameo that will launch next month. Group messaging seemed like such a big opportunity a few years ago. But that was before Apple launched iMessage , Skype bought GroupMe , and Facebook converted Beluga into Messenger . Suddenly, there wasn’t much to add by being a mobile group texting app without OS or other platform integration. Fast Society will apply its existing team and investors towards offering ...

December 12, 2011 – 1:17 am | No Comment
The $99 TouchPad Sale Overwhelms Ebay As Consumers Snatch Up The Discontinued Tablet And like that they’re gone. $99 TouchPads hit ebay right on schedule and were gone within minutes. But that’s to be expected, really. It’s not often that a solid piece of hardware like the TouchPad is available for so cheap. And thanks to HP’s recent moves , the tablet’s operating system, webOS, will be around at least in some capacity for as long as there’s a demand (and developers). The sale started at 7pm EST on HP’s ebay store like the memo we leaked indicated. Both the ...
App review: Infinity Blade 2 (iOS)
December 10, 2011 – 12:23 pm | No Comment
App review: Infinity Blade 2 (iOS) The 3D duel-fest is back, and attempting to answer some of the questions left over from its first installment (and a few major updates). Infinity Blade has had a huge effect on promoting the iPad and iPhone as valid gaming options, with high quality visuals and intuitive touchscreen controls. Well, Epic hasn't tampered with the formula too much, but has tried to instill some considered expansions and pour even more eye-honey all over it. Will it stretch gamers beyond the original? ...
