Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

Fast Society Deadpools Its Messaging App, Preps Cameo For Launch Fast Society today announced it will shut down its group messaging app and instead devote resources to its new app Cameo that will launch next month. Group messaging seemed like such a big opportunity a few years ago. But that was before Apple launched iMessage , Skype bought GroupMe , and Facebook converted Beluga into Messenger . Suddenly, there wasn’t much to add by being a mobile group texting app without OS or other platform integration. Fast Society will apply its existing team and investors towards offering ...

The $99 TouchPad Sale Overwhelms Ebay As Consumers Snatch Up The Discontinued Tablet And like that they’re gone. $99 TouchPads hit ebay right on schedule and were gone within minutes. But that’s to be expected, really. It’s not often that a solid piece of hardware like the TouchPad is available for so cheap. And thanks to HP’s recent moves , the tablet’s operating system, webOS, will be around at least in some capacity for as long as there’s a demand (and developers). The sale started at 7pm EST on HP’s ebay store like the memo we leaked indicated. Both the ...

Well, Epic hasn't tampered with the formula too much, but has tried to instill some considered expansions and pour even more eye-honey all over it. Will it stretch gamers beyond the original? ...

The Kindle Fire Is On Fire; Amazon Expected To Ship 3.9 Million This Quarter The Kindle Fire looks like a bona fide hit right out of the gate. The Kindle Fire will become the No. 1 Android tablet by a wide margin (the Samsung Galaxy Tab is the next biggest, with an estimated 1.4 million shipments). The Promise Of The 15-Inch MacBook Air
November 29, 2011 – 2:20 am | No Comment
The Promise Of The 15-Inch MacBook Air In my home office sits a 27-inch iMac with a secondary 24-inch LED Cinema Display attached to it. It’s a glorious vision of screen real estate. And yet, I dread using it. First world problem? It’s perhaps the definition of the term. But it’s true. I’m sitting here on a couch adjacent to my desk because I’d rather type this post on my MacBook Air. To be completely honest, I’d rather be using my iPad right now . But I must admit, it doesn’t come anywhere close ...

As a result, everyone waitin’ and wishin’ for an iPhone 4S carrier unlock has something to be thankful for. It’s not quite a done deal just yet, but iPhone Dev-Team ...

In a charming interview with Forbes Magazine , Microsoft’s Craig Mundie discussed future products at Microsot, including the success and plans for the Kinect as well as their mesa para computación , the Surface . Most important to certain folks who like computers by Apple were his comments on Siri. Basically, he said Windows Phone has had voice control – namely simple commands like “text Mom” and Bing searches – for a year now. Duh! He said: People are infatuated with Apple announcing it. It’s good marketing, but at ...
