Command & Conquer coded in HTML5

Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

Limera1n iPhone/iPad/iPod touch Jailbreaking Software From Geohot Now Available For Mac Jailbreaking an iOS powered device is very helpful for those looking to unlock the device’s full potential. Not only in many cases does it allow a consumer to use the device on a non authorized wireless carrier but it does so much more. In fact, it gives consumers access to a whole slew of underground mobile applications through the rogue app store known as Cydia. Unfortunately for those who support the jailbreaking movement, with each reoccurring release of iOS comes ...
Nokia N8 review

Nokia N8 review The first time Nokia's N8-00 popped up on our radar was way back in early February of this year. On that chilly, misty morning, we learned of a mythical being capable of shooting 12 megapixel stills, recording 720p video, outputting via HDMI, and -- most importantly -- ushering in the promised Symbian^3 touch revolution. It's been a long road of leaks, teasers, hands-ons, and previews since ...
Going The Distance: Nike+ GPS Vs. RunKeeper

Going The Distance: Nike+ GPS Vs. RunKeeper As someone who ostensibly tries to keep fit, I’ve found the best way to pretend to lose weight is to fiddle around with iPhone apps during my workout. First, it reduces the mind-crushing pain of exercise and allows me to go to a place in myself where I can avoid the boredom of exertion. To that end I decided to test out the new Nike+ GPS app alongside an old favorite, RunKeeper . Both apps have their pluses and minuses. Clearly RunKeeper is aimed squarely at the ...

SMC firmware update for 2007-2008 MacBooks now available When my wife got a new 2009 MacBook to replace her dead 2007 model, one minor irritation I had with the new MacBook was that its wall charger no longer worked with my Early 2008 MacBook Pro. That's no longer an issue; today, Apple issued an SMC firmware update for 2007-2008 MacBooks and MacBook Pros which allows them to charge using the newer MagSafe adapters. MacBook SMC Firmware Update 1.4 is available either through Software Update or ...

Tweet Library for iPad makes Twitter useful
October 7, 2010 – 1:56 am | No Comment
Tweet Library for iPad makes Twitter useful I've long been fascinated by the idea of using Twitter as both a social platform and a means of archiving my life on the web. I've played with using favorites, searches, backup services, my own bots for archiving links and direct messages ... I know it goes against the grain of the original vision of Twitter, but it's grown to be something that really has the potential to be more than a flighty (excuse the pun) social network. I haven't, however, ...
T-Mobile G2 buyers faced with automatic OS reinstallation after jailbreaking

T-Mobile G2 buyers faced with automatic OS reinstallation after jailbreaking First adopters of the T-Mobile G2 will probably find out after "jailbreaking" their handset that a microchip embedded within will prevent any permanent changes to be made which enables custom modifications to be made to the Android operating system. Basically, each time you install a third party ROM, the handset itself will go ahead to override your software changes while making sure the original firmware is ...
