Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. iTunes begins offering 90-second song previews It's been a long time coming: Apple has begun offering 90-second previews of songs in the iTunes Store. Previously capped at 30 seconds, all songs longer than 2 minutes 30 seconds will now have a 90-second preview available. According to MacRumors not all songs offer the extended previews yet, but eventually, all songs over 2:30 in length should. Apple played hardball with the music labels last month, stating its intent to extend song previews to 90 seconds and ...

Apocket B1100 iPhone 4 battery pack Some of you might remember the Mophie Juice Packs, an external battery that fits very well over the iPhone. This is the Apocket B1100 from Japanese company OTAS. It can improve the battery life by fifty percent, and it adds about 15mm and 51 grams to your iPhone. The device has a microUSB port for charging and syncing the battery via USB cable. I don’t seem to have a price of availability date on ...

Shop Savvy for iPhone packs a punch for shopping season Just a couple of days ago I took a look at the Amazon Price Check app. It's a great way to compare prices against Amazon and other online retailers. Before you hit the stores this weekend, it's also a good idea to have the free app Shop Savvy tucked away on your iPhone. It contains an accurate scanner like the Amazon app, but it also includes local prices and a map to get you to your store of ...

This is the tenth in the series of Bear books released by Oceanhouse Media, and it employs the same excellent engine used by all their books. Instead of having one picture per page, the engine allows for lots of panning and zooming, ...

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 reviewed: ‘what the GTX 480 should have been’ You saw the key specs slip out a little ahead of time, now it's the moment we've all been waiting for: the GeForce GTX 580 has been thoroughly benchmarked to see if its claim to being "the world's fastest DirectX 11 GPU" stands up to scrutiny. In short, yes it does. The unanimous conclusion reached among the reviewers was that the 580 cranks up the performance markedly relative to the GTX 480 ...

IMDB apps updated with social network integration, global movie showtimes Moviegoers love the free IMDB apps for iOS. Between the huge, searchable database of movies and actors, the reviews, and the ability to look up movie showtimes in the US, it's no surprise that the app is downloaded over a million times per month. Things just got even better for IMDB users. Nokia N8 review

Nokia N8 review The first time Nokia's N8-00 popped up on our radar was way back in early February of this year. On that chilly, misty morning, we learned of a mythical being capable of shooting 12 megapixel stills, recording 720p video, outputting via HDMI, and -- most importantly -- ushering in the promised Symbian^3 touch revolution. It's been a long road of leaks, teasers, hands-ons, and previews since ...

Yet More Pics Of The HP Slate Leak The HP Slate is turning out to be one of HP’s worst kept secrets as another round of honestly unflattering pics hit the ol’ tubes today. A good amount of time, so-called leaks are actually ploys from the market department, but the last few HP Slate leaks do absolutely nothing to create a positive buzz. (e.g. the hands-on video ) These five pics aren’t any different. Either HP needs to come clean and announce the Slate 500 complete with specs and a generous photo gallery, or keep ...

September 26, 2010 – 1:53 pm | No Comment
GoPro Releases The Low-Cost HD Hero 960 Wearable Sports Camera And We Go Hands-On GoPro isn’t a new name in the sports camera world. People have been strapping their cams to motorcycles, surfboards, and cars for some time now and their latest model brings high-def video for a bit less. The HD Hero 960 offers most of what the big brother HD Hero does, but for nearly half the price. You might not mind what’s missing, though. We have both of the cameras in-house for future vehicle reviews and used the new, lower cost model for the video above. The HD ...
