First Look: Tom Bihn Ristretto bag for iPad
June 26, 2010 – 1:06 pm | No Comment

I blame Steve Sande for my newest iPad-related purchase. Well, there’s a lot of things to blame Steve for, but it was his reviews of the Tom Bihn Western Flyer and Checkpoint Flyer that had me checking out the company he bought the bags from last year. Tom Bihn is based in Seattle and has the distinction of being among those rare companies that still makes its products in the U.S. using mostly U.S.-produced materials. Only a few components are sourced from overseas, but those parts are fully disclosed. Tom Bihn was also had gear designed specifically iPad right off the bat, announcing its offerings — The Ristretto and the Cache for iPad — just hours after the original iPad announcement. The US$110 Ristretto, which also comes in a larger size designed to hold a MacBook, is a vertical messenger bag with a padded area that is large enough to hold a netbook or an iPad. After having my iPad and accessories bounce around a larger bag for a few weeks, I caved and placed…

Sony announces Bloggie Touch pocket video camera
September 1, 2010 – 9:55 am | No Comment
Sony announces Bloggie Touch pocket video camera Remember Sony's Bloggie line of pocket camcorders announced back at CES? While those may have been a bit forgettable, the company's just-announced Bloggie Touch video camcorder makes a considerably stronger first impression (if you can get past the name). Boasting a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen wrapped in what appears to be a brushed aluminum body, this one packs 4GB or 8GB of internal memory, and will capture full 1080p video as well as 12.8-megapixel still images courtesy of the ...
Logitech’s ‘Lonely TV Part 3′ Google TV ad pulled, Part 4 steps up to the plate

Logitech’s ‘Lonely TV Part 3′ Google TV ad pulled, Part 4 steps up to the plate After Part 3 of Logitech's Lonely TV ad campaign (pictured above) didn't get quite the reception the company probably intended, GTVHub points out the video has disappeared from YouTube and quickly been replaced by Part 4 in the series. Both are embedded after the break so you can judge for yourself, but Part 4 (along with Parts 1 & 2) seems to do a better job of representing an Aaahh!!! Real Monsters mischievous entity than the Grape You ...

Brite-View HDelight brings WHDI to laptops and netbooks We've been following WHDI's story for quite awhile now, and Brite-View looks like it will be one of the first to bring the wireless HD technology to laptops with its HDelight. The setup is pretty self explanatory -- you've got a larger-than-we'd-like box that hooks up to your laptop via HDMI and then a even larger box that attaches to a monitor or HDTV. The Brite-View guys had a demo running at the Netbook Summit, and we found ...
Google TV: Who is the competition and what are they saying about it?

Google TV: Who is the competition and what are they saying about it? The Google TV has landed and is already sending ripples through the marketplace, but what about all the companies already blending internet and TV? Whether they are already planning to work with the new initiative (Rovi), even more firmly staking a claim on their existing technology and vision for the connected TV (Microsoft, Yahoo), sounding like it's an option for the future (Samsung, VIZIO, Boxee) or already working on their own Android on TV projects ...
AUO scores patent lawsuit decision over LG Display

AUO scores patent lawsuit decision over LG Display LG Display may want to be more careful where it aims those patent lawsuits next time, after a dispute it kicked off with AUO has lead to a finding by a U.S. District court that it actually violated AUO's patents and not the other way around. Say hello to patent Nos 6,778,160, 6,689,629, 7,125,157 and 7,090,506, covering "technologies help to improve response time, improve reliability of LCDs, solve the problem of defects in the displayed images, and provide a very ...
The best reason to get a Sharp QuadPixel TV: tech support
April 30, 2010 – 4:29 pm | No Comment
The best reason to get a Sharp QuadPixel TV: tech support Sharp QuadPixel TVs, just hitting stores now, take the usual three colors found in LCD-screen pixels — red, green, blue — and add a fourth: yellow. According to the company, this has the effect of producing images with more vivid colors, reducing power consumption and a slightly boosting resolution. QuadPixel's benefit over competing sets is debatable, though in a demo yesterday Sharp had me convinced that the tech support is the absolute best aspect of ...
Sony magically adds third dimension to new soundbars, 5.1 sound system

Sony magically adds third dimension to new soundbars, 5.1 sound system We heard the words "3D" and "sound system" smashed together back at CES, and frankly, we didn't give it too much thought. Now, however, we're really scratching our heads. In reality, we're guessing that 3D audio is just the 2010 way of saying simulated surround sound, as the 3.1 channel HT-CT350 and HT-CT150 soundbars a) don't require special glasses to use and b) look fairly flat to us. At any rate, the new bars -- ...
Samsung: Pregnant, drunk or tired? Don’t watch your 3D TV
April 15, 2010 – 3:38 pm | No Comment
Samsung: Pregnant, drunk or tired? Don’t watch your 3D TV Would you have bought your TV if it came with a warning to "take frequent breaks" to keep from experience nauseating side effects? That's what Samsung, which already has 3D televisions on shelves, is recommending users do to keep from succumbing to "motion sickness, perceptual after effects, disorientation, eye strain and decreased postural stability." It all sounds like a list on drug ad. The list goes on: children and teenagers should be "closely supervised" as they are ...
