First Look: Tom Bihn Ristretto bag for iPad
June 26, 2010 – 1:06 pm | No Comment

I blame Steve Sande for my newest iPad-related purchase. Well, there’s a lot of things to blame Steve for, but it was his reviews of the Tom Bihn Western Flyer and Checkpoint Flyer that had me checking out the company he bought the bags from last year. Tom Bihn is based in Seattle and has the distinction of being among those rare companies that still makes its products in the U.S. using mostly U.S.-produced materials. Only a few components are sourced from overseas, but those parts are fully disclosed. Tom Bihn was also had gear designed specifically iPad right off the bat, announcing its offerings — The Ristretto and the Cache for iPad — just hours after the original iPad announcement. The US$110 Ristretto, which also comes in a larger size designed to hold a MacBook, is a vertical messenger bag with a padded area that is large enough to hold a netbook or an iPad. After having my iPad and accessories bounce around a larger bag for a few weeks, I caved and placed…

It Turns Out The Shapes On Playstation Buttons Aren’t Arbitrary After All
August 26, 2010 – 2:09 am | No Comment
It Turns Out The Shapes On Playstation Buttons Aren’t Arbitrary After All This is pretty interesting. I’ve always thought that the shapes on the Playstation controllers were chosen just to be distinctive, and so they didn’t have to use a numbered or lettered face button scheme like Nintendo’s. As it turns out, they were picked for good reason. Sony’s Teiyu Goto explains : Other game companies at the time assigned alphabet letters or colors to the buttons. We wanted something simple to remember, which is why we went with icons or symbols, and I came up with the triangle-circle-X-square ...

Penguin United’s Eagle Eye brings WASD to your PS3 shooters, disrespect to your enemies (video)

Penguin United’s Eagle Eye brings WASD to your PS3 shooters, disrespect to your enemies (video) With the PS3's plethora of USB ports scattered across the front, you'd think it'd be a no-brainer that all shooters on the console would support keyboard and mouse controls to make the FPS purists happy. Sadly that's not nearly the case, so it's up to companies like Penguin United (creators of a fine array of silly Wii peripherals) to fill the void. The Eagle ...

The PS3 ain’t getting a price drop, and I’m okay with that
June 30, 2010 – 2:45 am | No Comment
The PS3 ain’t getting a price drop, and I’m okay with that I’m not sure who was expecting a price drop in the PS3 — Sony were the ones leading the console revamp charge with the sexy, sales-driving PS3 Slim . I give Sony a lot of flak here on CG, but $300 is simply a great price for the system; if all my money wasn’t already earmarked for coal and candles for my work environment, I might even buy one. But the president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, felt like driving the point home in an IGN ...
Sony announcing PS3 bundles with more storage, faster WiFi, and Move?

Sony announcing PS3 bundles with more storage, faster WiFi, and Move? We're just a day away from Sony's official press conference at this year's E3, and CVG has heard rumors from a supposedly reliable source that some refreshed PS3 bundles are on the docket for officialdom. Word is that the new PS3s will pack 802.11n WiFi (up from 802.11b/g currently) and will come in 250 and 500GB flavors. Both bundles are said to be coming with at least ...
Is life nothing more than a fancy computer simulation?
June 10, 2010 – 9:20 am | No Comment
Is life nothing more than a fancy computer simulation? The Science Channel has a new series that debuted last night called “ Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman .” The first episode discussed the idea of the creator. That is, how did all this stuff (people and all the other life on Earth, stars, planets, etc.) get here? Is there some nice, wise old man in the sky sitting on a heavenly La-Z-Boy orchestrating everything around us, or is something else at work? One of the more fun suggestions: perhaps we’re all merely a fancy computer ...
Mega64 gets the lowdown on Rock Band 3’s new logo

Mega64 gets the lowdown on Rock Band 3’s new logo Oh, Mega64, is there any code you can't crack? First it was the mysterious Kojima teaser last year and now, the comedy troupe ponders on that mysterious new keyboard-like icon in the Rock Band 3 logo. They even find some similarities between Rock Band 3 and F3AR -- er, sorry, FEAR 3. It's some very high-brow deductive reasoning, as indicated in the classy image above. Head past the break to check ...
Stanford’s crazy Weng electric car doesn’t have a prayer of seeing production (video)

Stanford’s crazy Weng electric car doesn’t have a prayer of seeing production (video) We've seen some wacky prototypes of electric vehicles over the years, but never anything quite like the Weng. It's a product of graduate students at Stanford, and it stands for Where Everyone Needs to Go. Where does everyone need to go? Less than 30 miles at 35mph apparently, as that's the maximum range and speed of this conveyance, which stylistically has more in common ...
Toy Story 3: The Video Game: The Developer Diary
May 30, 2010 – 9:17 am | No Comment
You probably don't want to write off Toy Story 3 just because it's a licensed title. We actually had a lot of fun with it and the latest dev diary above shows that Disney and Avalanche are committed to putting out a quality product. It's not simply a slapped together title attempting to cash in on the movie. There's an actual deep experience here, from the promising platforming shown in the video above, down to the unique character abilities and meticulously recreated ...
