What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. Japanese hardware sales, February 20 – 26: Greatest idea ever edition We're totally in love with the idea of creating fighting games based on other gaming IPs. Arc System Work's Persona 4 Arena is looking really solid, for instance, but if you'd asked us which gaming universe should be turned into a fighter, Persona wouldn't have been our first answer. This got us thinking, what other unlikely universe might make a totally rad fighting game? The answer, as we're sure you'll agree, is obvious: The complete works of Hayao Miyazaki. ...

Rumor: Leaked pre-visualization SimCity 5 trailer purports 2013 launch window This may be our first up-close and personal look at the still-rumored SimCity 5, or at least its debut trailer. Pre-visualization trailers like this serve as rendered storyboards, hence its distinct lack of actual motion, and are used by directors as a cinematic roadmap. It also gives us a glimpse of the game's roadmap, both literally and figuratively, by showcasing the layout of a simulated city and placing SimCity 5's release date in 2013. It's worth noting that ...
PSA: ME3 on the 360 can’t import ME2 saves in (or transferred by) the cloud

PSA: ME3 on the 360 can’t import ME2 saves in (or transferred by) the cloud Despite Mass Effect 3's impressive mastery of the atmosphere, it still can't quite handle clouds. EA is "aware of an issue" that prevents Mass Effect 2 save files that either exist in the cloud, or were transferred to a new 360 through the cloud, from being imported into ME3.EA's help guide for the problem makes no mention of plans to implement such functionality, but it does offer solutions, provided you still have ...

Valve Rumored To Be Working On Steam-Based Console Valve, creators of (among other things) the Half-Life franchise and Steam, the gold standard for digital game distribution, are said to be getting into the hardware game. If The Verge’s tip is to be believed , the company is working with partners to establish a base PC gaming standard to sell as a packaged deal, a sort of set-top box PC that would run Steam or other download services and run most PC games. If true, it would be a major step for Valve, which has always ...

Angry Birds given gesture controls in tech demo Developer SoftKinetic specializes in gesture recognition technology, and has put that technology to use in the headliniest of ways: Angry Birds. Using the iisu middleware, which allows 3D gesture recognition to be added to any application (if a special camera is present, of course), Softkinetic put together a tech demo of Angry Birds with gesture controls. It's incredibly intuitive -- if possible, it's even more intuitive than the touchscreen controls in the mobile versions. Basically, you just grab ...

PlayStation 4 might drop Cell processor, be easier to develop for Now that the PS Vita has launched in three major regions, focus is turning back on Sony's home console. The latest intel suggests Sony will ditch the complex Cell architecture for the PlayStation 4 and go with AMD for next-gen CPUs and GPUs. The switch would reportedly make the PS4 much more developer-friendly.

Japanese hardware sales, February 13 – 19: Kasumi Ninja edition "I saw it, so now you have to see it," is a common phrase around the Joystiq offices. The course of our daily work takes us to many strange and unexpected parts of the Internet, and often times throughout the day someone on staff will witness something so horrible that it must be shared in order to save their own sanity.Today, I've decided to extend that tradition to you, our beloved readers. While looking up pictures of the Atari Jaguar's ...
Joystiq Original Hip-hop: Welcome Back (To The Stage of History)

Joystiq Original Hip-hop: Welcome Back (To The Stage of History) Anyone who's listened to my long, incoherent rambles on The Joystiq Show knows that I love fighting games more than most things that exist. What you may not know, however, is that my love for a good combo is rivaled only by my desire to spit sick verses over fly jams. So, when Joystiq's Alexander Sliwinski and Steven Wong suggested that I marry my two passions into one creation, how could I resist? The end ...
