Well, you have to hand it to the strategy team over at Zipcar . Arguably the largest on-demand car-sharing network, Zipcar went public last year and not long after saw its market cap cross $1 billion . It’s since fallen back, and with collaborative consumption and the market for car-sharing heating up, the big players have to make moves. Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . Today finds Zipcar making another strategic move to get its mitts in fellow car-sharing companies, again with a focus on universities, whose students are among the most eager adopters of car-sharing models. What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. The Detroit-based Fontinalis…

Polaroid And Lady Gaga Introduce Grey GL30 Instant Camera The camera Polaroid teased last month, at the time simply (and ominously) called “Grey,” has been revealed by no less than Lady Gaga herself (about 40 minutes late), who claims to have been intimately involved with the design process. It’s pretty much what it looks like: a digital Polaroid camera that doubles as a wireless color printer. It’s got a flip-up LCD where you frame your shot; the controls are all under there unless you’re just firing one off. There were… Read More Read more ...

Contour Adds Bluetooth Monitoring And Controls To Sportcam Line

Contour Adds Bluetooth Monitoring And Controls To Sportcam Line You might remember a while back when I reviewed the ContourHD camera, a tiny, water-resistant 1080p camera for sticking to your bike frame, helmet, car, whatever. I thought it was pretty great, with the usual caveats for small camcorders, but one major limiting factor was that you couldn’t… well, you couldn’t tell where you were pointing the thing. I mean, it had handy laser guides to keep it level, and it’s reasonably wide-angle, but there was still some estimation in framing. Switching video modes and such was ...

8 sci-fi inspired advances that became real in 2010 Arthur C. Clark said that 2010 would be the year we made contact. While we didn't find the Monolith, and Zephram Cochrane didn't shake hands with a Vulcan, 2010 had some headlines that were truly the stuff of science fiction. Are we already living in the future? Take a moment and decide for yourself with these eight advancements that are helping make science fiction into science reality.
Samsung Releases World’s Lightest 3D Glasses
January 3, 2011 – 12:34 pm | No Comment
As we all know, the past few years of 3D TV suckage have dealt mostly with the weight and size of 3D glasses. I still remember the great 3D TV stampede of ought-nine when hundreds of people lined up at a Scranton Best Buy to pick up 3D TVs and then refused them when they realized the glasses were too head and not that there was no content and that the entire kit was too expensive. Now those selfsame people have no excuse: these 28 gram glasses from Samsung ...
