ION Audio brings light-up USB cables to the world

CES is not just about the ground-breaking new big techy things in life, you know, it's also about weird and wonderful little peripherals — such as these disco-tastic wires from ION Audio. The Desk FX cables hook up to your USB ports, giving an eerie glow to whatever you're working on, and highlighting all that hideous desk crud in a nauseating booger green. Expect them in a slew of colors in the first half of this ...
Toshiba works on instant voice translation software for cell phones

It makes a lot of sense, but it seems to be hard to realize: Using the cell phone for instant voice translation of basic sentences whenever you’re in a foreign country. But Toshiba is one of the companies working on this, and apparently they’re almost ready to offer a decent solution. Their translation software, in its current iteration, enables cell phones to interpret between English, Chinese and Japanese. Toshiba says that the database, used on their TG01 “smartphone” (pictured above), for example, boasts a database of 30,000 ...

Legendary RPG creator Hironobu Sakaguchi is working on a new game for the iPhone. In case you don’t recognize the name, he helped create a few games you might of heard of: Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Xenogears, and Final Fantasy . Sakaguchi-san announced that he was working on a new game via his company’s blog , stating that the new game would be coming in 2010 and that it’s going to be a “blockbuster.” And that’s about all – the blog post didn’t really disclose any details that ...
Win our CES swag on Twitter

Here's the not-so-well-kept secret about trade shows: They're actually a great place to get free loot. Plenty of exhibitors at this week's Consumer Electronics Show will be giving away gadgets, trinkets and gadgety trinkets. Sometimes they find a good home, but too often they end up in the bottom of some overworked writer's laptop bag, lost and forgotten.
Not this year. Every piece of CES swag that lands into the hands of a DVICE team member goes into a pile. And ...
Buffalo Japan sells very pretty external HDD

If you ever wanted to watch movies stored on your computer (you know, the ones you legally downloaded from the web earlier) in style, Buffalo might have the right device for you. Their HD-AV2.0TU2 [JP], an external HDD, is currently Japan-only, but the company sells a good number of external storage solutions in other countries, for example the US , too (which means this new HDD might become available there in the future). The main selling point of the HDD is the nice design. Technically, the device ...
Sharker motobike is a real land shark for the 21st century

The basic fundamentals of motorbike design have remained pretty much the same over the last 50 years, but that could change if the Sharker ever lands in a showroom. While most cars switched to monocoque construction back in the '60s or '70s, motorcycles have stuck with a traditional supporting framework, sometimes with an added fairing for aerodynamics, pretty much since they were first invented.
The Sharker breaks this tradition by using its sexy carbon bodywork to ...
The Ariel Atom, a $40K face melter
This thing is only 20,000 GBP or about $40K. It uses a Honda Civic R-Type engine with a supercharger. It clearly will kill you sooner than later, although because it’s a car you’re not dealing with the possibility of sliding under a truck. Amazing stuff. Here’s the product page. If you get one, do tell us what you think?

Fare Thee Well, Readers [Meta]
It's been an amazing few months here at Gizmodo, but if I recall correctly there's some cliché that goes something like "all that cool stuff you've been doing, you will eventually stop doing." I've got a new gig I'm starting up this week, and unfortunately that means I won't be writing for the site anymore.
There were so many "wow this is cool" moments during my time here that I can't even begin to count them. I mean, how can you not love a job that involves "playing" ...
Leaked: The Motorola Mirage might just be the best Android phone yet

Oh, Android – how good you have been for Motorola. It was only months ago that they were teetering on the edge of obscurity; one 350-person Android task force later , they’ve got the most popular Android handset in the lands and are being name dropped on a nearly daily basis around the rumor mill . A Chinese leakster managed to get his mitts on this (confusingly obscured) shot of an unreleased Motorola handset, and was nice enough to share it with the world. According to the ...
