Above is a purported leak of Pentax’s upcoming K-01 — a retro-inspired mirrorless camera which is apparently set for reveal soon. Divulged in a bevy of official-looking shots on Pentax Forums , the diminutive shooter will apparently be available in several colors alongside its incredibly-thin 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. Also shown are closeups of a dedicated HDR mode up-top, alongside dedicated red and green buttons, and a curious signature by designer Marc Newson adjacent to its battery cover. Perplexed by the sum of its parts like we are? Well, until Pentax reveals all, get a acquainted with it in the source links below. [Thanks, Ben]
On every mission of NASA’s Gemini program in the mid 1960s, the astronauts took Hasselblad 500c cameras with 70mm film and Zeiss 60mm lenses along with them. You’ve almost certainly seen a few of the more famous pictures that were taken on Gemini, but Arizona State has recently scanned in all of the original negatives (nearly 3,000 of them) and put them online in a high-resolution archive for the first time. We’ve looked through every single one and picked out the very best from each mission to tell you their stories.
Even though Microsoft acquired Skype quite awhile ago, the Skype app still has yet to make an appearance on Windows Phone. But if reports online turn out to be true, the wait could be almost over. Apparently Microsoft employees have been recently notified that a beta version of Skype for Windows Phone will be released shortly, and invitations will be sent out in the coming weeks. Assuming the rumors are true, it looks like Microsoft employees will be testing the app to weed out bugs before it is released to the public – so you can expect some images of Skype for Windows Phone to surface in the near future. Still no ETA for the arrival of Windows Phone Skype, but let’s hope it will be sometime this quarter. Who’s looking forward to Skype on Windows Phone? By Ubergizmo . For months we’ve been waiting on Razer’s Blade notebook , a $2800, 17-inch beast that we weren’t sure whether to laud or mock. It’s just that it’s kind of a strange thing to see making a big debut when people are more cautious than usual with their money, and PC gaming (as ever) is being declared dead. But after our hands-on at CES , we were convinced that it was at the very least impressive and well-built, and apparently enough other people thought so that Razer sold out almost immediately. Now, the actual number sold isn’t mentioned, but Razer isn’t a small company and they were going all-out with this thing at CES. But we’ve seen devices launch to sales of dozens, so a strong response to a launch like this is definitely good news. The company shared the news on their Facebook page , and urges prospective buyers to sign up for…
We knew that the Boxee desktop app’s days were numbered , we just didn’t realize how numbered. It was only the day after Christmas that we learned version 1.5 would be the last to ship for Linux, Windows and OS X. Now, with January coming to a close, its life is officially being snuffed out. Tonight, as you flip the calendar to February, Boxee will be busy purging its servers of the installable media center software. What that means, in case you hadn’t figured it out, is that this is your last chance to download the official app for your desktop OS of choice as the company shifts focus to the Boxee Box and other streaming appliances. Of course, we’re sure someone will pick up the torch and update the program, but as far as Boxee is concerned it has no desktop son.
Like how there are all sorts of companies offering tools to let you build your own web site today, a new wave of them is doing the same thing for mobile apps. Appafolio stands out among the various options because it lets you create a polished native presentation for iOS without having to do any coding. Instead, you either download the Appafolio app ( here ) or use its web site to select the text, icon and images you’d like to feature. The interface reminds me of setting up a Powerpoint presentation (in a good way), in that you can create pages within your app for specific types of media that you want to showcase, including slideshows and videos. Once you’ve created the product, you can direct anyone to view it who has the Appafolio app installed by sending them a shortlink or a pass phrase. The download-and-pass-phrase process creates some friction — or at least it seemed that way to me when I tested it. But, using the Appafolio native app as a portal for presentations also means that the slideshows and videos can …
