The Aperion Audio Home Audio Link is capable of transmitting uncompressed audio sans wires from any source, enabling multi-room listening within a decent range, of course. The Home Audio Link, also known as HAL, is a wireless adapter that streams any audio format wirelessly from a compatible device be it a computer, iPod, digital audio player or even a cellphone to a range of audio systems. You can also introduce additional HAL Receiver units into your home, allowing you to distribute audio up to three different rooms using the 2.4GHz band instead of Wi-Fi connectivity. Aperion is working on rolling out several new subwoofers that come with their own USB 2.0 ports. Each Aperion HAL system will retail for $149, while additional HAL Receiver units retail for $70 a pop. Shipping commences this January 28th, but you can place your pre-order now.
Get out those SAT skills! The Ivor Novello awards : Grammys :: The SAG awards : Oscars. They’re the smarter, more peer-reviewed way for the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors to reward excellent songwriting and composing. And as the BBC reports, for the first time, it’ll be honoring video game music . The bleeps and bloops of your favorite console games are becoming one of just six total categories at the Ivors this May. And it’s because they aren’t just bleeps and bloops any more. A member of the award committee says that the music in video games has “matured beyond recognition,” and that composing music for games pulls some muscles that most composers don’t have, like “non-linear and multi-layered composition.” No word on the nominees yet, but keep in mind, any game you nominate needs to have at least 1/3 of the composers be British or Irish, according to the Ivor rules. For instance, the music for Flower was great, but unless there’s a hidden “O’” in front
So we always hear about how hard it is to get an iPhone app approved by Apple, but here’s an interesting case; an 11-year-old boy managed to not just write an app, but get it approved, and now he’s donating some of the proceeds from the sale of that app to a children’s hospital. This kid didn’t just teach himself how to program, but he also managed to get the app approved, something that many adults can’t seem to manage. The app is called iSketch and it’s a drawing and painting program with your choice of brushes, and colors, along with the ability to send your drawings via email. Now 11 year old Cameron has committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of his app to the Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA in Westwood and Santa Monica. That’s something you have to respect no matter how old you are. Normally we find it hard to get excited about iPhone apps (well, except for Button ) but this is something worth passing on, if only to help Cameron with his donations. If you want to know more…

Its only been around 8 months since the xpPhone — a phone which, as the name implies, runs Windows XP — made its online debut , but its already caused quite the rift between the mega-geeks. One camp seems to think its the coolest thing since air-conditioned underpants; the other seems to think it’s a big pile of nonsense. Throughout all of this dweeby disputing, one important item remained a mystery: the price. Consider that mystery solved. Various elements of the phone (color, Windows XP/Windows 7, etc) are customizable, so the price varies a bit. But according to the manufacturer, the phone will always come in somewhere between 2999 and 4500 Chinese RMB; on this side of the pond, that works out to 400-650 bucks. What say you, dear reader? Would you drop right around 500 bucks for a brick-sized handset that runs Windows XP? Crunch Network : TechCrunch obsessively profiling and reviewing new Internet products and companies
There’s no denying that the HD3 Complication Black Pearl watch is striking. It’s got all sorts of complicated, gear-related workings inside, all visible through the face. It’s got a sexy black and red color scheme, and it clearly is a complex work of art. But hoo boy, $400,000 is steep. Sure, only 11 of them are being produced, but it’s still surprising to me that they’ll be able to sell that many at such a high price. But I guess it’s just evidence that a world exists where such things are normal. We normal people just don’t have access to it. Technabob via BornRich
Finally, Grand Theft Auto has come to the Apple App Store as Chinatown Wars has just become available. Yes, it does look different than what you see from the console version, but it bears a strong resemblance to the PSP version. Anyway, if you are a big GTA fan, then you can shell out $10 for this App and have hours of fun. Take a look at some gadgets we’ve only teased you with that are now shipping . A rugged and red Casio, an Olympus hybrid, an LG phone (with a butt), and an iPhone camera-mount shaped like a Batarang. The Olympus E-P2 is basically a re-hash of the E-P1 with a few improvements. Most importantly it has a Continuous Autofocus (C-AF) Tracking System that follows subjects through the frame, addressing one of the E-P1’s shortcomings. There’s still no flash and-depending on your taste in camera colors—is painted black. $1100 may be a bit steep for this guy, but if you’re into the whole retro looking Olympus scene then this should satisfy nicely. Get it here . CASIO Exilim EX-G1, the quintessential outdoorsy-action camera . It can withstand an impact from seven feet, operate underwater at 10 feet for a whole hour, and has a posse of shooting modes for fast action. It shoots decent enough video—though not HD—at 30 frames per second, certainly not a bad deal at $300. If you plan on hitting the slopes this season or snorkeling…
Remember the $1000 “I Am Rich” iPhone application ? Well, here is another $1000 app that actually does something. If you are an aspiring lawyer, it might actually be a bargain. How could a $1000 iPhone app be a bargain you ask? Well, BarMax CA was designed by Harvard lawyers, and it’s designed to help law students pass the bar exam —so you know the information comes from a credible source . Plus, BarBri, a company that is well known in the industry for offering in-class test prep combined with a free iPhone app, typically charges between $3000 and $4000 for enrollment (they have also been involved in multiple class action lawsuits regarding monopolistic business practices). The app is huge at 1GB—offering audio lectures, practice tests, flash cards and more—in short, everything you would need from a 2-month course. Obviously, the current offering is meant for the California bar, but there are plans to roll out versions for New York and five other popular states by the end of the year. There will also be a $500 version that features only
