February 22, 2012 – 8:25 am | No Comment

Well, you have to hand it to the strategy team over at Zipcar . Arguably the largest on-demand car-sharing network, Zipcar went public last year and not long after saw its market cap cross $1 billion . It’s since fallen back, and with collaborative consumption and the market for car-sharing heating up, the big players have to make moves. Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . Today finds Zipcar making another strategic move to get its mitts in fellow car-sharing companies, again with a focus on universities, whose students are among the most eager adopters of car-sharing models. What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. The Detroit-based Fontinalis…

Sony NEX-FS100 review
August 26, 2011 – 2:17 pm | No Comment
Sony NEX-FS100 review We've been uncommonly keen to get our hands on the Sony NEX-FS100 ever since we first heard about it back in March. You see, this is no ordinary camcorder. Its spec sheet reads like a liturgy of filmmakers' prayers: a large Super 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor, interchangeable lenses, XLR inputs and proper, professional controls. Sure, it comes with a $6,600 price tag to match, but it also heralds a trend that should ultimately benefit pros and ordinary gadget denizens alike: the ...

Canon launches PIXMA MG6220 and MG8220 photo printers, trees fear for lives Canon's not done insulting your Photoshop skillz, as it announces the PIXMA MG8220 and MG6220 Wireless Photo All-In-Ones. Print wirelessly with Canon's dedicated photo app (for Android and iPhone) and PIXMA Cloud Link, or access Picasa albums from the printer directly and add cool-ish effects like Fish-Eye, Miniature ...
Samsung’s Defense: iPad-like device seen in 2001 a Space Odyssey [Patent War]

Samsung’s Defense: iPad-like device seen in 2001 a Space Odyssey [Patent War] A YouTube video uploaded by septemberx on Feb 11, 2010 has been cited in the Apple vs. Samsung legal case. “In a clip from that film lasting about one minute, two astronauts are eating and at the same time using personal tablet computers”. Samsung’s argument is that what Apple calls the “iPad design” (a rectangular, flat computer, to simplify – check the patent) has been seen in prior art, and that Apple did not “invent” the notion of tablet computers. Samsung’s Defense: iPad-like ...

Apple to release cheaper, 8GB iPhone 4 within weeks? As the world waits for Apple to release the iPhone 5, Reuters is reporting that Cupertino may be refreshing the iPhone 4, as well. According to two anonymous sources "with knowledge of the matter," an unnamed Korean manufacturer has already begun producing parts for a cheaper, 8GB version of the smartphone, slated to launch within the next few weeks. As for that next-gen handset, the insiders went on to say that the iPhone 4S / iPhone 5 will will feature a ...
Source: The iPhone 5 Will Indeed Be A Dual-Mode CDMA / GSM ‘World Phone’

Source: The iPhone 5 Will Indeed Be A Dual-Mode CDMA / GSM ‘World Phone’ The upcoming iPhone 5 will almost certainly be a single phone that supports multiple networks, namely CDMA (such as the one used by Verizon or Sprint in the United States) as well as GSM (which is used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.). This has been rumored before , and even at one point half confirmed by a Verizon executive , but nothing like some good old evidence from the field to turn a rumor into a near-certainty. I was recently approached by a developer of ...
Refurbished 16GB iPad 1 Drops To $299

Refurbished 16GB iPad 1 Drops To $299 While $300 for a tablet might seem insanely high after this weekend’s $100 TouchPad frenzy , it’s still a decent buy. I still find it hard to recommend existing budget Honeycomb tablets over the iPad when I’m talking to people who aren’t into tech, and this makes its case even stronger. iPad or netbook? For some people the choice is obvious, for others not so much. But at $300 neither both are good deals. Still not sure? Let’s take a look at the other options. The new ...
