I blame Steve Sande for my newest iPad-related purchase. Well, there’s a lot of things to blame Steve for, but it was his reviews of the Tom Bihn Western Flyer and Checkpoint Flyer that had me checking out the company he bought the bags from last year. Only a few components are sourced from overseas, but those parts are fully disclosed. Tom Bihn was also had gear designed specifically iPad right off the bat, announcing its offerings — The Ristretto and the Cache for iPad — just hours after the original iPad announcement. The US$110 Ristretto, which also comes in a larger size designed to hold a MacBook, is a vertical messenger bag with a padded area that is large enough to hold a netbook or an iPad. The iPhone 4’s Proximity Sensor Problem Won’t Be Fixed In iOS 4.1 [Apple] Back in July, at the iPhone 4 Antennagate conference, Steve Jobs acknowledged the iPhone 4's proximity sensor issues and said they'd be fixed in the "next update." According to an Apple Australia spokesperson, they won't. The Next Web reports that an Apple Australia spokesperson said the company's still working on a fix for the proximity sensor's wonkiness, and it won't be cleared up in time for ...

App Review: Eat brains or get shotgunned in Zombie Dice Zombie Dice is one of a new breed of board games that was released almost simultaneously in real life and in digital form as an app for the iPhone/iPod touch. It wasn't supposed to be that way, but the popularity of the free Flash demo that Steve Jackson Games developed for its website made someone realize an iPhone app might not be a bad idea. Fast forward a little while and we can now download – for ...

Apple says goodbye to design firm that helped develop some Apple products The New York Times reports that Apple and SurfaceInk have parted ways after the small Silicon Valley developer showed off a tablet design to some potential clients. Apple obviously didn't like one of its partners demonstrating a product that could become a competitive threat, so out the door they went. The Times quotes founder and Chief Executive Eric Bauswell as saying that SurfaceInk and Apple had "gone separate directions." SurfaceInk was founded in 1999, ...

Vapor iPhone case review and giveaway First of all, we're giving away four Vapor cases in your choice of colors to four lucky readers. Second, the Vapor case is awesome. The Vapor bolts onto the edge of your iPhone 4 and cradles it in aircraft aluminum, complete with little rubbery grips on the inside to isolate the antenna and provide some shock absorption. It adds just enough width to the phone on the edges to make it a little easier to grip, especially if ...

Former Apple manager accused of hiding $125k in shoeboxes Back when I was a kid, I kept my most valuable possessions, my baseball and basketball card collection, in a shoe box. Apparently, so too did former Apple employee Paul Devine. Devine is accused of wire fraud and conspiracy on the basis that he collected more than $2.5 million in kickbacks from Apple's suppliers. And during their investigation, officials found $125,000 stored away in shoe boxes at his home, as well as more than $20,000 worth of ...

Arkon Slim Grip Mount Review–Smaller and More Convenient So as it turns out, I had just one more Arkon mount to talk about, which the folks out at Arkon sent for review–specifically, we’ve got a look at the Arkon Slim Grip Mount. The Arkon Slim Grip Mount is actually pretty similar to earlier Arkon models, except it’s more specifically a slim model. Where earlier Arkon models used side-mounted clamps, the Slim Grip uses top and bottom mounted clamps to hold your phone of choice in place. Now, the good part about ...
