Command & Conquer coded in HTML5

Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

Source: The iPhone 5 Will Indeed Be A Dual-Mode CDMA / GSM ‘World Phone’ The upcoming iPhone 5 will almost certainly be a single phone that supports multiple networks, namely CDMA (such as the one used by Verizon or Sprint in the United States) as well as GSM (which is used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.). This has been rumored before , and even at one point half confirmed by a Verizon executive , but nothing like some good old evidence from the field to turn a rumor into a near-certainty. I was recently approached by a developer of ...

Refurbished 16GB iPad 1 Drops To $299 While $300 for a tablet might seem insanely high after this weekend’s $100 TouchPad frenzy , it’s still a decent buy. I still find it hard to recommend existing budget Honeycomb tablets over the iPad when I’m talking to people who aren’t into tech, and this makes its case even stronger. iPad or netbook? For some people the choice is obvious, for others not so much. But at $300 neither both are good deals. Still not sure? Let’s take a look at the other options. The new ...

Apple Sneaks A Big Change Into iOS 5: Phasing Out Developer Access To The UDID Apple is making a lot of big changes to its mobile operating system with iOS 5, which is dribbling out in betas for developers ahead of a general release later this year. But there is one big change some developers are just starting to take notice of that Apple isn’t talking about that much. In a recent update to the documentation for iOS 5 (which is only available to registered Apple developers, but a copy was forwarded to me), Apple notes that it will be phasing out ...

Minecraft creator challenges Bethesda to deathmatch for the word ’scrolls’ While Samsung, Apple, HTC and others battle it out in court with lawyers and expansive patent portfolios, one man seems to know how real geeks settle disputes -- with a deathmatch. Markus "Notch" Persson, the man behind Minecraft and head of Mojang, has decided the best way to put the trademark squabble with Bethesda to rest is two rounds of three-on-three Quake 3 Arena action. ...
