Strategic Sharing: Zipcar Leads $13.7M Investment In Campus Car-Sharing Startup Wheelz
February 22, 2012 – 8:25 am | No Comment

Well, you have to hand it to the strategy team over at Zipcar . Arguably the largest on-demand car-sharing network, Zipcar went public last year and not long after saw its market cap cross $1 billion . It’s since fallen back, and with collaborative consumption and the market for car-sharing heating up, the big players have to make moves. Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . Today finds Zipcar making another strategic move to get its mitts in fellow car-sharing companies, again with a focus on universities, whose students are among the most eager adopters of car-sharing models. What do I mean? The company today announced that it is a lead investor in the $13.7 million series A financing of Wheelz , a junior, university-focused version of itself. The Detroit-based Fontinalis…

Surc, another accessory to turn the iPhone into a universal remote
December 15, 2010 – 9:53 pm | No Comment
Surc, another accessory to turn the iPhone into a universal remote Yes, we have seen IR emitters for the iPhone before, like the A POWER, ThinkFlood’s RedEye, and the Kinetix. Mashed Pixel has come up with the Surc. Surc just needs the case and an app, and it is then a universal remote. As you can see, it gets a private beta in early 2011, and you can follow it on Facebook or Twitter. The Surc is compatible with ...
Finally, An iPod Watch Strap for the Rugged [Ipodwatch]
December 15, 2010 – 11:01 am | No Comment
Finally, An iPod Watch Strap for the Rugged [Ipodwatch] Flimsy nylon! Neon plastic! Get outta here with your cheap-o iPod Nano watches! The strap for those who grab salmon out of a nearby river for lunch is here. Pure leather. Awesome. Sophisticated—but in a sorta punch-you-in-the-face way. Elecom's retro-outdoorsman (or woman!) straps come in brown or black, and look a little more durable than their rubberized plastic offerings. ...

TimeCommand dock turns your iPad into a very pricey dimmer switch XtremeMac has been crankin' out iPod docks for years, and now former CEO Gary Bart has launched Stem Innovation, a company dedicated exclusively to iOS accessories. For its first trick, Bart and company have introduced TimeCommand which (as its name implies) goes beyond the whole dock thing and comes across as a control station for the bedroom. Among its many charms are iPhone / iPod / iPad compatibility, the ability to control your mood lighting ...
Android Now Seeing 300,000 Activations Per Day
December 9, 2010 – 5:45 am | No Comment
Android Now Seeing 300,000 Activations Per Day Andy Rubin, head of Google’s Android team, doesn’t talk to his 15,000+ twitter followers very often. In fact, he’s only tweeted once before, and it was little more than a quick retort lobbed in Steve Job’s direction after he questioned Android’s definition of openness. This evening, he let out but nine more words: There are over 300,000 Android phones activated each day. This is mammoth growth over the numbers disclosed just four months ago, when Google head honcho Eric Schmidt proudly proclaimed that they were seeing just ...
First Look: Ninja Steve for iOS

First Look: Ninja Steve for iOS CEO. Industry Mogul. Superhero. That's the idea behind the upcoming Ninja Steve app. Inspired by the fake story about Steve Jobs being denied the chance to take shuriken onto his private plane, Ninja Steve transforms an urban legend into a deliciously silly idea for a game. It features a CEO hero named Steve, who leads a secret double life as a Ninja. The developers assure us that "[o]ur character share the name with ...

iFlash adds a flash to your iPhone or iPod touch
December 2, 2010 – 6:46 pm | No Comment
iFlash adds a flash to your iPhone or iPod touch Of course, it kind of takes away from the idea that a mobile phone should be sleek and easy to carry, but I'm guessing that is beside the point. The iFlash is a self-powered flash module that plugs directly into the docking port of your iPhone 3G/3GS or iPod touch and allows owners to take pictures in badly lit areas. It will also work with your iPhone 4 but there's not a lot of point in having two ...

iPad pinball accessory goes missing on Brookstone catalog This is an accessory for the iPad from Brookstone to make an Apple tablet into a Pinball machine. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear in the Brookstone catalog anymore. Worse, the free app doesn’t appear to be at the iTunes store any more. I wonder what happened to it? Anyone know? Leave a comment if you do. Source Related PostsPinball Magic from New Potato TechnologiesRemember when ...
