AmpliTube for iPad available, Yngwie Malmsteen en route to Apple Store

Just a quick note for all of you virtual amping enthusiasts: IK Multimedia has announced that the AmpliTube is now available for iPad. As you'd expect, it works with your iRig hardware and the UI seems benefit from the extra screen real estate (let's be honest -- twiddling all those knobs and stomp boxes on the iPod Touch was a little bit much for us to take). It comes in two flavors: free (three effects, one amp, one ...
TUAW’s Daily App: Pilgrim’s Punch Out

Comic-Con starts in San Diego today, and I'm down here wandering the aisles, looking for geeky gear and cool games. Scott Pilgrim is already one of the stars of the show, with the excellent comic series having finished up, a new console game coming out soon, and of course the Michael Cera-enhanced movie in theaters in a few weeks. To celebrate, NBC Universal has released this free retro Punch-out game starring the characters from the ...
TUAW review: Email while driving with Text’nDrive Pro for iPhone
Sure, you'd love to be able to check and answer your email while you're driving. But fortunately for the rest of us, many countries, states, and municipalities have made the act of reading and tapping out emails on your iPhone while driving illegal. Hands Free Software has come up with a solution that not only reads your incoming mail to you, but allows you to reply to those emails through voice.
Text'nDrive Pro for iPhone (US$19.99) ...
Amazon sales of eBooks are better than hardcover sales

I suppose that this is a historical moment for ebooks as Amazon has just announced that Kindle eBooks are outselling hardcover books sold in the Spring.
Apparently, there are 143 Kindle titles sold for every 100 hardcover books sold last Spring By the way the figure has increased in June since 180 eBooks to every 100 hardcover texts this month.
With the price cut of the Kindle, who knows how this will play out. ...
Apple sold 8.4 million iPhones in Q3 2010, smashed through revenue records

At Apple’s iPhone 4 press conference last week, they were kind enough to spill the beans on how many iPhone 4s had sold since launch: roughly 3 million . What they didn’t share, however, was how many total iPhones they’d sold lately — that number, said Apple COO Tim Cook would be coming in their upcoming financial reports. The report for fiscal quarter three (which runs from April 1st to June 26th) is here, and the grand total is.. ( drumroll ).. 8.4 million. By my quick ...

RIM to Apple: Man up and leave us out of it

RIM has issued a statement regarding Apple’s explanation of the antenna issue from Friday , which of course used a Blackberry as well as other phones to demonstrate signal loss. I’ll let it speak for itself: Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully ...

It's the second day after the Apple press event, and there's still a lot of buzz in the air about the press conference and its outcome. While we'll probably skip on singing The iPhone 4 Antenna Song for you tonight, we'll have plenty to talk about on tonight's episode of the TUAW Talkcast.
As usual, you can join in on the fun! We'll be live at 10 pm ET, taking your calls ...

The Swype text entry interface that's been tearing up Android phones, World Records and maybe iPhones was spotted doing more of the same on a large touchscreen at the Microsoft Worldwide Partners Conference. Spoiler: It looks like Swype, but bigger: It is only a demo, and there's not even a wisp of an inkling that there's a partnership brewing between Microsoft and Swype Inc. (the chaps behind the ...
