Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. Motorola Olympus shows up in the wild, demonstrates unyielding commitment to Motoblur Witness our last review of an Android smartphone from Motorola and you'll know what we think of Motoblur. Then again, we reckon we could get over our qualms when Moto's skin is stretched out over this delectable-looking, supposedly Tegra 2-boasting smartphone. The Olympus has been snapped again, this time by someone claiming to have bought it at a flea market, and it now shows off an HDMI output alongside the standard microUSB connector, both of ...

iPhone URL display potential security threat

iPhone URL display potential security threat Security research specialist Nitesh Dhanjani has demonstrated how mobile Safari's ability to hide a web page's URL can be used to trick users. Specifically, his proof-of-concept site shows a "fake" URL filed once the real one has been hidden, preventing users from realizing that they're not looking at the site they intended to see. Dhanjani goes on to note that, in situations where a URL filed should be visible, a hacker could simply present the fake one, tricking most users. ...

iPhone photographers, get your Glif on with new tripod mount It's a local-boys-make-good story for the Internet age: two New Yorkers brainstorm an idea for the kind of iPhone 4 tripod mount/stand they'd want to buy. They put their design on Kickstarter with the intention of raising US$10,000 in ramp-up funding. With a snazzy prototype video and the attention of some traditional and not-so-traditional media outlets, they missed their funding estimate by more than 10x ...

Angry Birds not coming to WP7 till 2011 If, over Thanksgiving, you were jealously watching your snotty cousin playing Angry Birds on his iPhone/Android phone, and lamenting the game’s absence on your new Windows Phone 7 device, then I should probably warn you that you’re going to have to go through the whole thing again at Christmas time… Rovio (makers of Angry Birds) stated on Twitter today that it’s quite unlikely that they’ll be able to get out Angry Birds for WP7 before the year’s end. Shop Savvy for iPhone packs a punch for shopping season Just a couple of days ago I took a look at the Amazon Price Check app. It's a great way to compare prices against Amazon and other online retailers. Before you hit the stores this weekend, it's also a good idea to have the free app Shop Savvy tucked away on your iPhone. It contains an accurate scanner like the Amazon app, but it also includes local prices and a map to get you to your store of ...
