Command & Conquer coded in HTML5

Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

iOS 4.3.1 released, fixes a few bugs Apple's just dropped iOS 4.3.1 on iTunes users across the land, fixing a handful of issues related to enterprise apps, AV-out, iPod touch graphics problems, and cellular network connections; not the most exciting changelog, but it's better than a slap across the face. As usual, the update is available for pretty much the full suite of iOS products -- iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch alike. Go on, grab it!...
New Fancy iPhone Case Puts A Watch On The Back
March 25, 2011 – 7:07 am | No Comment
New Fancy iPhone Case Puts A Watch On The Back Say, for sake of argument, you’re a moron. What kind of case would you put on your iPhone ? Would it be inexpensive, made of rubber, and offer protection for your device? Or would it be made of delicate brown leather and feature a De Bethune pocket watch with a DB 1024 movement stuck on the back so you can read the time either by looking at your case or by, you know, turning the freaking thing around. This ignores the fact that you’d have a piece ...

TUAW’s Daily App: Max and the Magic Marker Max and the Magic Marker is a really incredible game. It's won awards everywhere, and now it's available from EA on iOS for iPhone and iPad. Essentially, the game is a platformer with Max having to navigate the weird game world by moving and jumping around. But the twist is he also has a magic marker that can be used to draw real-world objects that he can physically interact with. When you combine Max's platforming with the physics-based items ...

Flow now available, keeps your tasks beautifully in sync Flow, the long-awaited task management system by Metalab, is finally slipping out of beta today and opening its doors to the public. First and foremost, Flow is a web app that many will find very similar to MobileMe in aesthetics. Through this interface, one can add and manage tasks through projects or even delegate tasks to other Flow users (a handy feature for teams). The real killer feature we're seeing with Flow, however, is the cloud-based ...

Quattro robot plays games on the iPhone Ever wondered about whether there is someone out there who is able to beat you at your favorite game on the iPhone? Well, if the humans can’t do it, how about calling in something heavier in the form of a robot – the Quattro robot, to be more specific. Swappa: It’s Like Craigslist, But For Android Geeks

Swappa: It’s Like Craigslist, But For Android Geeks Buying a used Android phone can be tough. It seems like most of the people slingin’ their handsets up on eBay or Craigslist are doing so because they don’t really understand the phone, which doesn’t exactly lend to their ability to aptly describe it. Most of’em end up reading something like: FOR SALE: The Verizon ANDROID. It has a touchscreen, buttons, microphone, four “G”s, buttons, and a battery. Runs all the apps! iPhone sucks! Brand new in box. Well, the box is new. The phone is broken. ...
Speed Test: HTC Thunderbolt vs. iPhone 4
March 18, 2011 – 7:27 pm | No Comment
Third-party wireless retailer Wirefly (who has been all about the HTC Thunderbolt for the past few days) has just shared the video up above, which seeks to answer question that’s on just about every geek’s mind (or, at least, that I’m going to say is on every geek’s mind for the sake of this post): just how much faster is the data speed of the 4G-powered HTC Thunderbolt compared to the 3G-powered Verizon iPhone ? Turns out (in this test at least), it’s about twice as fast on the ...
AT&T forcing illegal data tetherers to sign up for official tether plan

AT&T forcing illegal data tetherers to sign up for official tether plan The always douchey AT&T is making headlines again. And once again it's related to the iPhone. The wireless operator is discretely cracking down on iPhone users who are tethering their data plan to other devices using jailbroken solutions. Unauthorized tethering allows other devices to piggyback off the iPhone's data plan to skip out on having to pay an extra fee.
