Well, you have to hand it to the strategy team over at Zipcar . Arguably the largest on-demand car-sharing network, Zipcar went public last year and not long after saw its market cap cross $1 billion . It’s since fallen back, and with collaborative consumption and the market for car-sharing heating up, the big players have to make moves. Zipcar has since forged a partnership with Ford, making it the largest provider of cars for Zipcar’s University program , and, in December, the company took a controlling stake in Spain’s largest car-sharing network, Avancar . TomTom lowers iPhone app price if you don’t need to go to Canada Maybe they're feeling a bit of pricing pressure? Whatever the reason, TomTom just released a stripped down version of its Navigation app that leaves out Canada. Oh my. This USA-only version sells for US $49.99, [iTunes link] which is half the price of the version that includes our good neighbor to the north. Like the big brother version, this app includes turn by turn directions and lane guidance, and 2D and 3D driving views. This ...
Woz Would Buy Apple Tablet

Woz Would Buy Apple Tablet This is far from an official confirmation that the Apple Tablet exists, but Apple’s co-founder, Steve Wozniak, has said that he would purchase the Apple Tablet next year, if such a thing existed, of course. It’s nice to see that he’s (obviously) very loyal to Apple products, but we’re fairly sure everybody around him is trying to see if he has any insider information on the upcoming products, be it the Apple ...

While Square, the new venture from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey that adds a credit card swipe reader to the headphone port of an unsuspecting iPhone or other smartphones, was busy demoing at Le Web, one of the heavyweights of the payment processing market was busy prepping an announcement of its own. Earlier this week, VeriFone announced PAYware Mobile, a combination iPhone/iPod touch app and swipe card reader that will enable merchants to accept and process credit ...

NES controller iPhone dock could be so much more For $40, you can ditch your boring old iPhone dock and pick up an old NES controller modified to work as an iPhone dock. It's impressive enough, sure, but man, do I want someone to take one of these mods to the next level by giving the buttons some functionality. How about syncing when you press start? Or wiping the entire phone when you enter the Konami code? Let's make this happen. Etsy via Technabob

Motorola Droid Beats iPhone To Top 10 List While it seems like an almost impossible task, the Motorola Droid has managed to beat Apple’s iPhone and take the title of Time Magazine’s 2009 Gadget of the year. That being said, this year Apple’s iPhone came in fourth, which just goes to show that the competition in the mobile phone scene is really heating up. The bad news for Palm fans is that the Pre didn’t make it ...
Ratio cookbook becomes an iPhone app

Ratio cookbook becomes an iPhone app I recently read this terrific article in the New Yorker about cookbooks, and I think one of the reasons I liked it so much is that it hits pretty close to home -- I do like reading and browsing cookbooks, and I don't cook nearly as much as I want to. And I can totally identify with the tension between searching the pages of recipes looking for a secret, weighed against actually getting the experience necessary to be a great ...

Nuance launches Dragon Dictation for iPhone – Get it while it’s free! Nuance is one of the most important companies in the mobile space, yet few cell phone owners have any idea who they are. You know that T9 feature that lets you blast out texts on your number pad? That’s theirs. If your phone does text-to-voice or voice transcription, that’s probably their technology too. Nuance’s latest move to take over the mobile world: the iPhone. ...
