Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. The tablet craze is upon us thanks to the success of Apple’s iPad. Due to this craze, just about eery hardware manufacturer in the book has come forth to announce their own offerings. ViewSonic, in particular, has came forth in the past to show us their own iPad alternative with devices like the ViewPad 7.

Today, however, the company has shown us a device that they claim isn’t a tablet at all but instead a PMP/e-reader. This device, dubbed the MB-P702, features a 7-inch display with an 800 x 480 resolution, 1080p HD video playback thanks to an HDMI-out port and teh ability to play back and display a whole slew of video, audio and eBook formats.

Curious as to what these formats may be? According to our source they are as follows:

Video
RM, RMVB, AVI, MOV, WMV, MKV, VOB and other video formats together with

Audio
MP3, WMA, APE and FLAC Lossless in audio.

Ebook
PDF, TXT, EPUB, CHM, HTML, PDB and UMD

ViewSonic even tells us that you’ll be able to annotate PDF files straight from the device. Unfortunately, we don’t currently have a price or release date but chances are it won’t be priced anywhere near comparable tablets considering, well, it’s not a tablet.
