Command & Conquer coded in HTML5

Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. 4b539d271c80x249.jpg Sony Ericsson W760a Cell Phone Review–Fully Featured, UnderpoweredIf you’re looking for a phone with a little extra under the hood, but one that won’t break the bank, then you’ll want to have a look at the Sony Ericsson W760a, a phone that’s packing a lot more than it’s letting on.

The Sony Ericsson W760a is a slider-style cell phone with conference call, voice recorder, speakerphone, Bluetooth connectivity, a melody composer, compatibility with Yahoo and AOL instant messenger programs, mobile web, mobile email, a mobile blogging application, Java application capability, RSS feed capability, video call capability, a variety of downloadable content, a 3.2 megapixel camera with 2.5x digital zoom, alarm clock, calendar, basic calculator, MP3 player, and a battery that can yield three and a half hours of talk time on a single charge.

This is the really strange thing about the Sony Ericsson W760a–it has a lot of great features. In fact, it’s stuffed with them. It’s got enough utility for two low-end phones but it barely has the battery charge to power one of them.

What kind of phone gives you almost everything you may ever need in a phone (if not necessarily everything you could want) but gives you almost no power to run it? It’s a strange dichotomy, but it’s still a great phone…while it’s got charge.

The Good

Plenty of features

Nice resolution camera

The Bad

Low battery life

Score 7 / 10
