Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

Back in November of last year Motorola shipped the first DROID for Verizon Wireless. After a long period of downtime after their once popular RAZR handset’s populairty decreased dramatically, the DROID was seen as the company’s return to greatness – a possible comback for a company with quite a bit of talent up their sleeve.

After proving itself successful thanks to Google’s Android operating system, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and slew of other features, Motorola went on to develop and release the Droid X. This device, just having hit the market on July 15th, features a 4.3-inch display, a front facing camera, 1GHz processor, 8 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and, of course, Google’s Android.

As you can tell, both phone’s are quite the competitors to even today’s hottest devices giving Motorola the momentum they need to contiously pump out hard hitting device after hard hitting device.

The next of such devices is rumored to be the Motorola Droid 2 – a slide-out QWERTY keyboard touting device that takes design elements from both the original Droid and the Droid X. While specs aren’t confirmed (the device has yet to be announced) we do know that it will feature a 5 megapixel camera and a larger touchscreen than its predecessor. We’re going to go out on a limb and predict that it will feature specs similar to the Droid X – a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, making it yet another hard hitting device out of the gates from Motorola.

No word on when this device will drop but rumors point towards an August release. We’ll keep you posted but in the mean time feast your eyes on the above image that was recently leaked. Looks pretty damn good to me, what about you?
