Command & Conquer coded in HTML5

Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Trying to do the whole thing in under a month all by myself wasn’t the smartest idea.” As part of Shankar’s recreation of Command & Conquer, it included buildings, terrain, combat, tiberium harvesting and regrowth, in addition to the ability to sell and repair buildings. You want fog of war? It has that, too, in addition to a pannable map, different cursors, …

LG LX370 Cell Phone Review–Great Phone If You Can Use It

e0a4cabe1d22x280.jpg LG LX370 Cell Phone Review–Great Phone If You Can Use ItMaybe one of the biggest movements in phone technology is to make it smaller. Everyone wants a smaller phone. And for the most part, small phones are great. They’re easy to carry, easy to use and easy to live with. But sometimes, the drive toward smaller is all-consuming, forgetting everything else. And the LG LX370 is a perfect example of this.

The LG LX370 is a slider style cell phone with a voice recorder, speakerphone, Bluetooth connectivity, mobile email, mobile web, Sprint TV, a variety of PCS-specific options, text message, an MP3 player, a two megapixel digital camera, alarm clock, calendar, calculator, and a battery that will yield six hours of talk time on a single charge.

Sure, there are plenty of great features here. And that battery is one of the longest I’ve seen in some time. But here’s the problem–it’s ease of use that troubles me. I gave this one a try and it was like trying to fly a brick with wings. The control layout was confusing, and frankly, getting even the simplest things to work was troublesome. I even had LOAD TIME issues! Load time, can you believe it? I couldn’t.

The LG LX370 is a mixed bag–a great set of options, but many of them blocked or reduced due to useability issues.

The Good

Plenty of options

Great battery life

The Bad

Useability issues

Load time troubles

Score 6 / 10
