Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Here’s the not-so-well-kept secret about trade shows: They’re actually a great place to get free loot. Plenty of exhibitors at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show will be giving away gadgets, trinkets and gadgety trinkets. Sometimes they find a good home, but too often they end up in the bottom of some overworked writer’s laptop bag, lost and forgotten.

Not this year. Every piece of CES swag that lands into the hands of a DVICE team member goes into a pile. And that swag pile will be given away to one lucky reader. How to win this technological horn of plenty? Just follow us on Twitter, look for our contest tweets and follow the instructions. We’ll pick the winner at random after the show ends on Sunday. Good luck, tweeps!
