Remember the classic RTS known as Command & Conquer? Well, an enterprising coder, Aditya Ravi Shankar, actually recreated the strategy game using nothing but HTML5, where it runs on 69k of Javascript. Why did he set out on such an adventure? For starters, Shankar’s attempt was a self-mandated undertaking in order to improve his coding skills, where he gave himself a one month window to rebuild the game in the browser, and had to comb through the original game’s files in order to obtain all the right sprites, sounds and specs. According to Shankar, “In hindsight, I might have wanted to take smaller steps and make a tower defense game instead of jumping directly into an RTS. Sony’s CES 2010 press conference started with a short serenade from off-key teeny bopper singer Taylor Swift, and winded its way through a boatload of new products from the Japanese consumer electronics giant. Sony’s courtly chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer touted Sony’s commitment to 3D from lens to screen, the “monolithic” Bravia line of HDTVS, and lots of new video and still cameras.

Our faves? The Sony Bloggie, a USB video camera knockoff of the Flip Mino HD that offers a unique 360-degree panoramic lens option; and our other favorite was Sony Dash, an internet-attached device with a crisp 7-inch screen that displays Chumby widgets and a whole lot more.

Here’s our massive gallery showing you the most interesting of all we saw at the overwhelming and surprisingly boring Sony CES extravaganza.
